“Reel” Story - The Final Ten
1. Reel: Norway did a nine minute infield drill. Real: We always did a nine minute infield drill before each game. 2. Reel: Norway won 20 of 29 State Championships they qualified for Real: We did win 20 State Championships, and finished runner up 5 more times. 3. Reel: Norway had a convenience store, grocery store and barber shop. Real: We did have a grocery and convenience store, and a barber shop, but only the convenience store remains. 4. Reel: Coach Van Scoyoc was a farmer and industrial arts teacher. Real: Coach Van Scoyoc was an industrial arts teacher in a farming community. 5. Reel: Coach Kent Stock coached volleyball at Belle Plaine, IA. Real: Coach Kent Stock coached volleyball at Belle Plaine, IA. 6. Reel: The newspaper reporter was rather obnoxious. Real: The newspaper reporter was a great guy. 7. Reel: Coach Jim Van Scoyoc quit before the last season to coach with the Detroit Tigers. Real: Coach Van Scoyoc did quite before the last season to coach with the Detroit Tigers. 8. Reel: A little girl sang the Star Spangled Banner at the last Championship game. Real: The Star Spangled Banner was sung by a high school student, however, there was a little girl from Norway who sang the Star Spangled Banner at Norway home games. 9. Reel: The Norway players received a welcome home, riding on a fire truck. Real: Norway players always received a fire truck ride after a championship. 10. Reel: Norway High School sent 15 players to the Minor Leagues and 3 to the Majors. Real: The town of Norway claims 17 Minor Leaguers and 4 Major Leaguer.
